AI Research Intern

6 months

At AETHER, you’ll conduct pioneering AI research that advances the state-of-the-art in autonomous systems. Working alongside our research scientists, you’ll explore novel architectures like foundation models across diverse modalities and experiment with advanced tasks such as multi-agent reinforcement learning.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement experiments with cutting-edge neural architectures including foundation models, spiking neural networks and neural ODEs
Develop intelligent agents with (multi-agent) reinforcement learning for complex autonomous decision-making tasks
Formulate hypotheses, design rigorous experiments, and analyze results using statistical methods
Create novel solutions in cognitive computing and robotics automation
Potentially stand a chance to collaborate on research papers and technical documentation of methodologies and findings
Write clean, reproducible code and document research experiments via logbooks

Required Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree or diploma in AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Strong mathematical foundation in linear algebra and statistics.
  • Solid programming skills in Python and proficiency in at least one deep learning framework (PyTorch, TensorFlow or JAX). Knowledge of HuggingFace is also helpful.
  • Familiarity with scientific computing and data processing libraries such as SciPy and Pandas respectively.
  • Analytical mindset with strong experimental design and scientific methodology skills.
  • Creative problem-solver who thrives in collaborative environments.
  • Independent and self-driven learner with a "fix it" mentality.

Preferred Experience

  • + Experience implementing and training neural network architectures from research papers, and ability to understand and reproduce results from AI research literature.
  • + Prior experience with specialised neural architectures (e.g. transformers, diffusion models, liquid state machines)
  • + Knowledge of reinforcement learning algorithms and multi-agent systems
  • + Demonstrated interest in research through projects, publications, or open-source contributions.
  • + Experience with distributed computing for large-scale model training.
  • + Interest and potentially background in cognitive science or computational neuroscience.
  • + Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with loosely defined work guidelines.
  • + Exposure to aviation systems is a plus.
